Knee Problems Treatable with Physical Therapy

Knee Replacement – Also known as total knee arthroplasty, can help relieve pain and restore function in severely diseased knee joints. Damaged bone and cartilage from your thigh, shin, and kneecap is cut away and replaced with an artificial joint. Physical therapy is introduced following surgery in order to gain maximum flexibility and range of motion from your new joint.

Knee Joint Pain – Injury or disease of the knee joint can bring about knee pain. Injury can affect any of the ligaments, bursae, or tendons surrounding the knee joint. Injury can even affect the ligaments, cartilage, menisci, and bones within the joint. The complexity of the design of the knee joint and the fact that it is an active weight-bearing joint are factors in making the knee one of the most commonly injured joints.

Knee Strain/Sprain – A knee sprain is an injury to a knee ligament. It can vary in severity from a slight stretch to a complete tear of the ligament. Most knee ligament injuries involve a tearing of either the medial collateral ligament (MCL), or the anterior cruciate ligament (MCL).
